Educational Support
Educational Support
The surest path to peace in the Middle East is…
We believe that education plays an important role in achieving stable peace.
Education provides children in the conflict zone with opportunities to explore the path of peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding, not of violence.
It is essential that they acquire abundant knowledge and receive a rich human education.
Conflict and Poverty
Both the Israeli and Palestinian peoples have suffered from the conflict for over decades.
No compromise has yet been reached between the two sides, and there is no prospect of resuming the peace negotiations.
As long as the occupation and destruction of Palestinian cities continue, the resistance and counter violence continues.
Schools are facing immense difficulties.
Industry has been decimated by the long conflict and unemployment is on the rise. Economic aid from various countries has been suspended, and serious hardship is spreading.
The gross national product per capita in Palestine is approximately USD 900 in the West Bank and USD 700 in the Gaza Strip, which is 1/30 and 1/50 of Israel and Japan’s GNP per capita respectively.
The cost of living is said to be less than 300 yen per person per day at the lowest level.
How It Works
The flow of your donation
The main recipient of your donations is the Solidarity Office attached to the Vatican Embassy in Jerusalem.
The Solidarity Office supports schooling fees for children from poor families in need, regardless of religion or race.
However, we do not send the money to the children’s families, because there is a possibility that the parents will use the money for other purposes when it should be used for their children’s education.
Therefore, we directly wire the money to the schools for tuition exemption or reduction.
How much to donate
Here are some concrete examples of how your donation helps the children:
For a donation of USD 1 per day
⇒ A kindergarten or lower grade elementary school student can attend school.
For a donation of USD 1.5 per day
⇒ A upper grade elementary school student or a middle school student can attend school
Children’s schooling lasts from 6 to 12 years.
Your continuous monthly support enables children to attain stable education .
One-time support is also greatly appreciated.
Foster-parent System
Purpose of the Foster Parent System
Foster parenting is a system in which you, as a foster parent, support the education of a particular child (foster child) with a certain amount of monthly support money.
By exchanging photos and letters between the foster parents and the foster child (optional), it is possible to watch the child’s growth more closely.
This allows for face-to-face support and a more concrete contribution to be made.
- Eligibility for foster children
- ⇒ Poor children from Israel and Palestine (regardless of race or religion, from kindergarten to junior high school)
- structure
- ⇒ We are not accepting any new applications at this time.
Join our Study Tour and meet our foster children!
Every year in early March, we organize a study tour to Israel and Palestine.
Participants of the tour can visit the schools of foster children.
It’s a joy to see their lives and how they’ve grown in a tangible way!
